230 kV Overhead Transmission Line Florida

Building a Critical 47-Mile 230 kV Transmission Line Through Urban Florida

Pike recently constructed a new 230kV line between two critical substations. The first 23-mile line was challenging due to the urban and commercial areas where it was constructed and the several hundred easements to be worked. The second component consisted of a 24-mile line from between substations. The Substation Expansion required the expansion of an existing 230kV Substation and the termination of a new single-circuit transmission line. The 230kV yard was expanded from a three-breaker ring bus to one double-breaker bay and two breaker-and-a-half bays. Due to this expansion, modifications were also necessary at the termination of existing 230kV transmission line facilities from the remote end substations. This also included the folding in of the transmission line running between these two remote end substations. The 230kV Substation expansion required the conversion of the substation 230kV yard from a four-breaker ring bus to three double-breaker bays, one breaker-and-a-half bay, and associated yard expansion.

Tasks also included surveying, subsurface investigation, land clearing, grading, drainage, switching station pad preparation, fencing, access aprons, installation of foundations, steel structures, bus, hardware, conductor, OHGW, control cables, relays, grounding, equipment installation, testing, and commissioning.

RESULTS

  • A critical two-phase, 47-mile 230 kV transmission line between substations

  • Enhanced transmission capacity and reliability in a high growth corridor
