SAFETY IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR
CULTURE AND EVERYTHING WE DO

At Pike, we believe in safety because it’s the right thing to do, our employees deserve it and our customers demand it. Our crews work on energized infrastructure, in storm conditions, across complex and remote terrain. The discipline to do that safely is the same discipline that makes us partners you can count on.

Guiding Principles for Safety

Safety is our most important value.

Working safely is a condition for employment.

Customer requirements and feedback are incorporated in our safety plans.

New ideas for safety improvement are encouraged and welcomed.

All employees will receive the training necessary to safely perform their work.

Employees who observe an unsafe act or condition are expected to take action to stop the act or report it.

Management leads through example: creating a safe work environment, a culture of zero tolerance and fostering continuous safety improvement.

Each employee is responsible
for their own safety, the safety of other employees and the safety
of the public.

Stay Safe Is Pike’s Safety and Health Management System

The creation of the Stay Safe program has enabled dramatic improvements in Pike’s safety culture. We’re extremely proud of the ongoing improvements in safety and strive to improve those practices continuously. No job is so important at Pike that an employee cannot take the time to perform it safely.

Safety Training at Pike

Training is a cornerstone of the Pike Stay Safe program, with a goal of ensuring that employees know how to perform their work safely. Pike provides qualified, competent and certified trainers capable of teaching relevant skills and information utilizing a vast library of materials. Training begins with employee orientation, followed by on-the-job, classroom and virtual training programs supplemented by refreshers through regularly scheduled safety and training meetings.

OSHA Electrical Transmission and Distribution Program Partnership

In 2004, Pike was a founding member of the OSHA Electrical Transmission and Distribution Partnership with government and industry stakeholders, coming together with a common goal of improving worker safety in the electric line construction industry.

Partnership goals include:

  • Analyze accident and incident data to identify common causes for fatalities, injuries and illnesses suffered by linemen, apprentices and other appropriate job classifications.
  • Develop recommended best practices for each identified cause.
  • Develop implementation strategies for each best practice and promote these strategies among the partners.
  • Identify training criteria for foremen, general foremen, supervisors, lineworkers and apprentices, including training to create industry culture change to place value on safety and health.

The Partnership has developed several effective safety and health best practices to help reduce the frequency of incidents:
